Everyone enjoys a good story. The best ones have the ability to transform reality – at least for a moment – and allow us to envision ourselves in the role of the protagonist. Employing such a tactic as a tour guide on a college campus might seem unsettling initially, but it can be quite effective in distinguishing your campus tour from another. The addition of personal anecdotes – the elation over that academic “aha,” sharing one’s most meaningful extracurricular experiences, as well as the developmental hurdles encountered – makes the campus tour all the more authentic and memorable. With the number of outstanding colleges across the country, the campus tour can often be the factor that sets yours apart. So take ownership of your story. Make it honest, make it entertaining, and you may soon find yourself to be quite the author!
